Sometimes, you've just gotta go with what mother nature gives you. Alana and Austin had been anxiously awaiting their engagement session, and when the date arrived for our shoot, the skies were gloomy and low with the threat of rain. I reassured them that overcast skies make for wonderful lighting and moody, beautiful colors.
As I drove to the family property in Lamar where Austin had proposed to Alana months before, I hoped that the heavy rain would hold off just a bit longer. This small family resort means so much to Alana, as she grew up enjoying weekends there with her family. I wanted their photos to be perfect.
When I arrived, I was welcomed by Alana's family and made to feel at home in their cozy A-frame cabin by the shore of the lake. Alana's grandparents even shared some of the history of the property with me while we waited for Austin and Alana to arrive.
A lull in the rain happened just in time, and we were even able to pull out the lovely antique sofa that Alana's mom had purchased for the occasion. Lola, their adorable CKC spaniel, was happy to be a part of the photos as well. I love when my clients bring their fur-babies.
Just as we finished up our session, the sky broke forth with a drenching rain, and we ran for cover. It was perfect timing, and the photos had those lovely soft tones that only an overcast day can bring. Here are a few favorites from their session:
