I often joke that beautiful people are the norm in my clientele. It would be one thing if I were just talking about looks - which Tom and Sam do have in spades - but it isn't. My clients have substance behind their gorgeous smiles and their perfect hair and fashionable outfits. They have meaningful relationships with the world around them and one another. They care about what really matters, and are truly kind people.

Tom and Sam both grew up in rural settings - Tom is a small town boy from Iowa and Sam grew up outside Macon, Missouri. One night at a bonfire gathering at a friend's farm, Tom first saw Sammi and felt an instant attraction. While they only spoke a few words to one another that night, when they met up again a few years later, the chemistry was still strong, and they soon began dating. The rest, as they say, is history. With a shared love of fitness, animals, and travel, these two have much in common and a real affection that you can sense. It's no wonder they want to spend the rest of their lives together!

We met up in Downtown CoMo for their engagement session, and got to know one another a little better over drinks before we began shooting. I love breaking the ice with my couples and starting engagement sessions this way, because it takes the pressure down immediately.

It was a boiling hot July evening, but these two were such good sports! We found so many great spots to shoot, including a beautiful dandelion mural that none of us had ever noticed before.

I'd rather give my couples cues instead of strict poses, so we played the Color Game, which is guaranteed to get laughs every time. Sam and Tom guessed the same color - Magenta - which made all of us laugh out loud and made for some hilarious photos! These two have quite the meeting of minds going on!

We finished our session at Stephens Lake Park, and Sam's sister brought their adorable fur baby Lyonel along for a few photos with mom and dad. He wasn't quite sure about the camera at first, but we got his little furry ears to perk up with our antics! I really like it when my clients include their pets, as they're an important part of their love story too!

Working with couples like Tom and Sammi, it's no wonder I enjoy my job so much. I can't wait to shoot their boho-chic wedding in Macon next June! Thanks for a wonderful evening, guys! You're the best!
